COMMUNITY OUTREACH
New Day Children's Theatre provides theatre programs for children and youth of all experience levels. Our goal is to strengthen our community through our programs and make theatre accessible to all children regardless of race, cognitive differences, or ability to pay. We bring students, staff, and volunteers together through theatre to work on a common goal while celebrating our differences and building relationships that will last a lifetime.
Bringing Literacy to Life
Our Bringing Literacy to Life program was created in partnership with the Voluntary Pre-K program in the Collierville Schools and has recently expanded to serve the preschool students at Hope House in Memphis. New Day sends a teaching artist into the classroom four times throughout the school year. Blending storytime with theatre activities, these sessions are designed to introduce students to theatre while promoting a love for reading. Each student receives a personal copy of the book read during each session for their home library. The Bringing Literacy to Life classes are invited to attend the matinee of our spring show free of charge and are provided ticket vouchers for their family so that they may enjoy the gift of live theatre together.
Little Stars
Our Little Stars creative movement class is for ages 4-6. This class promotes mobility, balance, and coordination through song, dance, and theatre games. The Little Stars class is free of charge for any student who participates in our Bringing Literacy to Life program.
This introduction to theatre in the rehearsal studio and the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities at no cost fosters a love for creativity and the arts in children who may not otherwise have the opportunity to be exposed to the art of theatre.
Victoria's Summer Stock
Our summer mainstage production is a great way for students who are busy during the school year to be involved and participate in theatre. Produced in partnership with the Town of Collierville, our summer show is free to audience members allowing everyone in the community the opportunity to experience live theatre in a family-friendly environment without financial barriers.
Sensory Friendly Performances
We believe that everyone has the right to enjoy the magic of live theatre. We offer a special performance with each main stage production for those with neurosensitivities. These special performances are free to attend and are produced with technical adjustments that eliminate any special effects with flashing lights or loud noises. Applause is replaced with snapping and the house lights are kept on in order to decrease anxiety for those who may be uncomfortable in the dark. Movement and dancing in the aisles are encouraged during the performance, allowing guests the opportunity to move about freely if necessary in a judgment-free environment.
